Clallam County Sheriff’s Office with the Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition participates in U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) nationwide med “take-back” day of expired and unwanted medicines. This free, anonymous, in-person event is held twice a year, April and October on the 3rd Saturday.
While medicines help treat disease, manage chronic conditions, and improve health – unused and expired prescription medications pose a public safety concern. Opioids are now one of the leading causes of injury-related deaths in Washington State. This safe disposal aims to protect young people by helping residents safely dispose of prescriptions being used in the home.

MOST Port Angeles youth DO NOT use marijuana, alcohol, vaping, or other substances. The Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition uses reliable data to demonstrate that positive norms already exist in Port Angeles that support youth and young adults to make healthy and safe choices.
PAHYC follows the Positive Community Norms (PCN) model developed by renowned Jeff Linkenback, Ph.D. at Montana State University. We hope to create PCN campaigns that challenge community and peer misperceptions that influence substance use behaviors among Port Angeles youth.
